My blog is better than your blog, my tragedy is my trump card and other inside baseball nonsense
Helo scores another direct hit, in a post about Hog on Ice’s direct hit.
Here at the ‘Rants, we don’t care about traffic. We’re just here to post some good stuff and go about our lives. None of us here blog for money or fame, and the only reason we do it is to put a few smiles on a few faces. It’s not called Drumwaster’s Rants because we’re out here to make friends.
Give that man a cee-gar. And a scotch. And a island-raised service girl clad in nought but a grass skirt and two coconuts. Because he’s got it. And what did Hog on Ice have to say? A lot, much of it of inside baseball about the resident nutter at Wizbang, Paul, and how Kevin, a decent guy by *my* account, felt compelled to defend him. Kevin, I told you a long time ago Paul was going to ruin Wizbang and drag your reputation down with him. Over the past year I have watched friend after friend of your site turn away as a direct result of Paul’s lunacy.
And that’s where the perspective comes in. I live in town where they ARE still finding dead bodies a quarter of a year after a hurricane. My sister finally returned to her house this week. She lived in a raised house and it avoided the flood waters by mere inches.... It was the only one for blocks.
When she went in, she found people had been living in her house after the storm. For days. And she knows this because among other things she found used diapers. Can you imagine being trapped in a house with no electricity, no food, no running water, in 90 degree heat with a baby? For days?
How horrible. What the fuck does that have to do with a discussion of the Weblog Awards?
Paul raises the spectre of the dead to what, shut up a critic? How are these two things even in the same sphere of discussion? Answer: They aren’t. Paul was intellectually dishonest and intended to manipulate the reader through emotionally connecting two unrelated things. It’s a “I have nothing valid to say, but look at this gaping wound I have that has nothing to do with this. Pity me.” kind of tactic. In otherwords, he used a loony left trick. Welcome to WizKos. Explosively Derivative. Here’s your featured author for today, Michael-Paul Moore.
Don’t say nobody warned you, Kevin. He was a self-righteous, pompous and factually incorrect jerk long before the hurricane. You have a great blog when you excise Paul’s nonsense. Don’t let him ruin it because of some misguided sense of loyalty. Control your boy. It’s your reputation that suffers...his is already gone.
Anyway...the money quote from Steve at Hog On Ice is this:
Gentlemen, you run a BLOG. You are not in charge of the universe. Try and understand the difference.
I think everyone at Drum’s knows that. I know I know that. I wonder how many of the “top bloggers” know it?

If I thought the contest meant anything, I’d vote for John at Wuzzadem.

Yes, Paul is a dipshit, for about 7000 reasons. And for those 7000 reasons, I don’t link Wizbang anymore. Granted, my little boycott is about as significant as the foreward to a Jackie Collins novel, but it’s there.
