One sentence that demonstrates precisely why we’re having a conflict

It’s just mind-boggling.

“It’s in the heart of every Muslim. We respect and we love (the Koran) more than our families,” said Ab-dishakur Ibrahim, imam of the Al-Farooq mosque.

How can anyone who believes in logic and reason ever expect to co-exist with that mentality?  More than your family?  That’s fucking perverse.

IT’S.  A.  BOOK.  If your faith is so weak that the destruction of the physical book destroys your religion?  You don’t deserve to have that faith.  I wish despair and emptiness on anyone who thinks the ideals by which they live are less important that the symbology of those ideals.

What the fuck is wrong with those people?

What’s even more pathetic is the fact that in America, the land of the free, someone purchased a copy of the Koran and did some nasty shit to it.

And it’s going to be investigated, and not just investigated, but investigated as a hate crime.

Whats the crime?  Littering?  Because it goddamned well better not be “misdemeanor desecration of a venerated object,” because if *I* own the book, it’s my goddamned object to desecrate if I so choose, and who the hell are you to decide what is venerated?

I will grant you the intent was to insult and offend.  I definitely see that...but.

Why does Islam get special protection?  If I pissed on a Koran, shit in the pages and hung it in a frame, don’t I deserve awards from the New York art world?  Or is it just Christianity that is allowed to be mocked?

Of course, why am I surprised?  This is the country that just had the Supreme Court tell us that the government can take our house and sell it to fucking Wal-Mart.  This is the country that is trying to turn the flag into a Koran for Americans, something that cannot be used as a symbol of protest against our government, a clear violation of the First Amendment.

No, I’m not surprised.  Saddened and disgusted, but not surprised.
