Randy “The Natural” Couture - a god walks among us mortals
I watched Randy Couture put on a clinic last night (the fight was Saturday, I just watched it last night). At UFC 68 Captain America, - age 43 and back up to heavyweight from his earlier 205 class fighting trim - took Tim Sylvia, the then-reigning heavyweight champ, and beat him like Tim owed him money. On his feet Randy scored strike after strike after strike, seeming to get inside Sylvia’s huge reach advantage, laying in left hooks and right crosses at will, then ducking and weaving back out and rarely taking a hit in return. It was definitely a new side to Couture, and obviously something he learned through losing to Chuck Liddell. Randy put Tim on the ground almost every single time he decided it was time. Sylvia, for all his weight and height, was outclassed in every way. Sylvia is no slouch on the ground - he has submitted people in the past - but Randy basically just mugged him.
It was a thing of beauty. Randy The Natural Couture may just be, with this new stand-up ability, the best all-around MMA fighter to ever live. If they ever decide to allow different weights to fight again, I think Randy could beat Matt Hughes and Royce Gracie. If he keeps training stand-up, I think he could have a shot at Liddell. Imagine if he asked Dana White to let him drop back down to 205 and took that belt too? He’s held them both before, just not at the same time. Now that would be a damn story right there.
As it stands riht now, Captain America is hands-down the best thing to happen to MMA since Royce and his family came up with the idea. I am very glad to see him come out of retirement and happy for him to do it with such resounding success.
Your new heavyweight champion of the world...Randy, The Natural, Coutuuuuuuuuuuure.

It was truely awesome. I ordered it (like I do every UFC event), watched it live. Me and the wife were on the edge of our seats the entire fight. Randy was dominating him, but like you said, Tim aint no slouch. At any moment, given the chance, Tim could have ended it with one punch or one kick.
Randy never gave him that chance. He kept him on his heels the entire fight. So awesome to watch. Ive watched it like 10 times since. That man is amazing. I really dont think anyone really, deep down, gave him a shot at winning. But, just, WOW!
Really though, I dont see it as the beginning of anything. Maybe if he drops back down to 205. Maybe. Fighting Chuck again could be a good fight based on Randys standup in this fight. But like Rogan said, the winner of this fight (Tim vs Randy) will probably get to fight Cro Cop. Congratulations. I like Randy alot, and for that reason, dont want to see him get in the ring with Cro Cop, it will just be ugly. Now, Arlovski vs Cro Cop, that would be fun to watch.
Cant wait for April 7th now! Soooo looking forward to seeing GSP rip apart Serra. Niiiiiiiiice. Sanchez vs Koschek should be awesome too.
One more thing about UFC fighters. Please stop praising Jesus. I feel like my years in Catholic school were really really wasted if you are to tell me that Jesus is helping you to beat somebody else senseless. I may not believe in Jesus, but I like to think I have a basic understanding of who he is supposed to be.
