Ping!  Fundraiser reminder

First of all, thank you SO much to every person that has already donated to the server fund.  Some of you did it anonymously, and some of you let me know.  Either way is cool, but those of you who let me know who you are...I’m trying to figure out something cool with which I can thank you.  At the very least I will address each of you individually, as I have developed at least that much class over the years. Well...almost.

As I said the last time, if you think we’re worth a few bucks...please hit the tip jar.  It’s not an emergency, it’s just a bit of a rough patch and this server never gets cheaper.  It never gets more expensive, thankfully, but it never gets cheaper.

All we’re asking for is a small contribution.  Think of it like buying us a pizza...or a couple of microbrews.  Just a few bucks to get the monkey called Softlayer (our hosting provider) off our backs.

It’s fundraising time…

People, you have no idea how little I want to write this post.  I have been putting it off forever, but numbers are numbers, and numbers don’t lie.  My numbers are telling me that I need to once again ask for the support and generosity of the readers of the blogs on our server.

If you read anything by me, Lee, any of the guys at MOA, Moorewatch or Right-Thinking or anyone else we host, and you think we’re worth a few bucks...please hit the tip jar.  It’s not an emergency, no one is dying, no one is losing their house, although our house is part of it - our tax bill went up because our house is worth more, so our mortgage escrow is short and you homeowners know what that means!  Monkeys on backs.

All we’re asking for is a small contribution.  Think of it like buying us a pizza...or a couple of microbrews.  Just a few bucks to get the monkey called Softlayer (our hosting provider) off our backs.

You people are awesome, and have always treated us well.  I hope that every reader of this site knows I appreciate the years of posting, comments and general yacking we’ve all done.

Gratuities gladly accepted

Time for another server drive, unfortunately.  If you appreciate the whores and opinion I shovel out on a not-very-regular-at-all basis...maybe throw a nickel or two in the old tip jar?  Much appreciated if you do, and no obligation if you feel like telling me to get stuffed.

I’m still going to be the big-mouthed, sporadically-posting whoremaster you know and semi-tolerate either way.  ;)

A change

The other day, Steve from HogOnIce wrote this.  Today he wrote this.  Skip the pepper talk, although I find it interesting as I like to grow stuff and cook and whatnot.  The part I want you to see is the part that refers to the conservative blogging stuff.

Now, this is not the first time Steve has written on this subject.  Nor is it the first time I have agreed with him.  Pajamas Media screwed up the whole right side of the blog world.  Right wing bloggers are so busy competing and fighting over petty differences that they cannot form anything resembling the united front of the left part of the blog world.  Forget that, though.  I don’t want to just be part of some side of a battle.  What I would like is to stop being treated like a red-headed stepchild by *both* sides, but more by the one I’m supposed to be on, ya know what I mean?  Originally I picked the URL due to the wordplay of me being right but also being on the right, and I was doing it in part to show solidarity with the right-o-sphere...but to hell with ‘em.  The whole A-list can kiss my ass, and the B-list can get in line behind ‘em.  I only get love from smaller bloggers who aren’t worried about their place in the frigging Technorati or Ecosystem lists anyway.  There is no movement.  Online, at least, the right has failed and is dying faster than Rosie O’Donnell’s movie career.

On top of all that, I wonder how many people stay away from this site just because of the URL and/or name.

And I don’t feel comfortable with it anymore, it just doesn’t seem to fit me.

I’m thinking of going back.  Back to “Starkthoughts.” with a .com at the end.  I’ll take the hit from Google, rebuild my pagerank, all that.  I’ll redirect right-thoughts.us to the new domain.  But I think maybe I’d be better off switching back.  And it’s not the first time I have felt that way.

What do you all think of this idea?  Any opinion will be welcome...let me know if you think it’s a crazy, stupid idea.  I am really, really leaning toward doing this...if anything above should be given more weight it’s that I just do not feel right...no pun intended...with this URL and blog name anymore.  If someone can give me a really good reason not to do change back to Starkthoughts, I will absolutely listen, but it’s gonna have to be an awfully good reason.

I probably should have posted this awhile ago...I’m taking part in the Blog Reader project survey.  If you could, take a moment to fill it out.  All info is private as per their privacy policy.

Gamefly

Gamefly says that if I get five people to sign up for a month, they’ll send me a free Wii.

OK.  Let’s test them.  If you are willing to do this, leave your name in the comments.  If we get five, I’ll paypal you the first month’s basic fee (ten bucks).  After the first month everyone can cancel (or keep it if that new shipping facility they just built makes the service worthwhile).

Sign up here.

Do me a little favor?

Could you click on the Blogads for me?  Not crazy cheating click, just pop over and see what they have doin’.  Lately I’ve been doing OK with the ads, traffic is building back slowly after finally getting back in Google...I want to make sure they feel like they got some eyes for their dollar.

I’d appreciate it.

Blegathon

Reposted from Moorewatch - This post will stay at the top for a few days, scroll down for new posts. (links fixed, thanks acapella!)

It’s that time of the year again...time for the PBS Moorewatch fund drive.  I have no tote bags to give you.  In fact I’m so frigging broke I’m accepting free totebags.  I plan to convert them to clothing.

Here’s the deal:

More about the cat I want someone to adopt today!  Right now!  Take her home!

I stopped at the vet this morning and got some more pictures and more info about the cat.  First up: Cuteness!  Sorry for the quality...cell phone camera.

The bald patch on her back was because her fur was matted pretty badly.  They tried to comb and trim out just the mats, but it was no use...so they buzzed her!  Poor thing.  The strange light band around her neck?

Oh that pissed me off.  They weren’t going to tell me at first because the woman holding her in these photos knows me now, and she knows this is just not cool with me.

The cat’s name is Tagitha.  So named because her former owners got her as a baby kitten at a tag sale, ten years ago.  And raised her.  how she turned out so sweet with these jerks in beyond me...but anyway back to the neck thing.  They had a collar on her for years.  The same one.  She grew.  The collar stayed.  She grew and gained weight.  THEY NEVER LOOSENED THE COLLAR.  It had to be cut off it was on so tight.  Her fur grew around the damned collar.

Grr.  Some people should not be allowed to have pets.

Anyway...if you are within driving distance of New Haven, CT and would like to give this beautiful cat a home...email me, I’ll get you in touch with the right people.  She’s as sweet as can be, totally calm, loving and very very friendly.  I found out she likes to snuggle necks.  :)
