Re: Music. Sorry to break it to some of you, but like all “art,” music is purely a luxury. Teaching might be a noble profession (practically my whole family teaches), but teaching music appreciation? Not so much, I dare say. (In fact, I’ll even go so far as to say that the value of teaching is directly proportional to the value of the subject being taught.) There are a very few basic things in life that we need to survive--food, water, shelter--and music isn’t one of them. I love music, but I won’t die without it.
