Election 2004

I guess what I’ll do all night rather than make 25 posts (if I have that much to say) is just update this one.

(map removed, image not updating!)

- The big mess over observers in Ohio was a whole lot of nothing.  They were alowed in, and barely contested anyone’s eligibility.

- Wow, that set NBC built is pretty damn impressive.  Almost as distracting as Brokaw’s mushmouthed speech impediment.  How has he made it as an anchor all these years?

- I may be crazy, but NBC and CBS, all anchors and reporters, are projecting this air of somber defeat, and FOx News lsounds like all the reporters just got hummers (and I don’t mean the truck) before they went on camera.  I don’t know if it means anything, but that’s what I see.

*UPDATE*

One of the talking heads on CNN just said ..."That, of course, is the state that Edwards used to...uhh...the state he represented in the Senate.” Hey sister...he’s still technically representing them, even though he hasn’t been to work much this year.  Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and declare the winner.

*UPDATE*

- Someone on Fox just said that Kerry’s talk all week about the explosives may have helped him. Great.  Lying his ass off all week may have fooled stupid people.  I LOVE THIS COUNTRY.

The big 8 PM *UPDATE*

- Illinois, CT, Columbia, Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Mass and half of Maine go to Kerry.  It puts the current EV tally at 66 Bush, 77 Kerry.

- That talking head who tried to cede the election to Edwards, BTW, was Judy Woodruff.

- I AM STUNNED.  Christopher Dodd was re-elected according to projections.  Shocked!  /sarcasm

- Arlen Spector may lose his job.  He’s an (R), but I got no love for Arlen.

*UPDATE*

- Bush wins NC.  SHOCKER!  ;)

- Rann made a good point, that Edwards has decided not to seek re-election, hence the past tense discussion of his current gig.  He is risking it all on tonight...that takes balls.  Where is he going to go if he loses?  His home state regretted electing him.  If he’s not the Veep...I’ll be curious as to where he ends up.  Ballsy move to risk it all on Kerry.

*UPDATE*

- Ohio is going to be a problem.  The lawsuit over long lines is going to delay the count.

- Virginia was supposed to be a battleground...kind of.  In some polls, anyway.  Looks like Bush gets it.  He’s probably going to get South Carolina.

- Early reports from Florida are good for Bush.

BTW: Sorry about the oddball timestamps on the comments.  I fixed the time on the server and it threw some things off.

*UPDATE*

- Florida looks REALLY good for Bush.  10% lead!

*UPDATE*

- That was odd, CBS was calling 108 EV for Bush, but I couldn’t see what they were calling that no one else was.

- Oh I hate nothing in live more than listening to Susan Estrich talking.  She makes me want to punch her in the mouth, just from the sign of her voice.

- Oh, CBS is calling Mississippi for Bush.  Not a surprise, I just wonder why they’re calling it and no one else is as of 8:54.

*UPDATE*

- OK, I’m going to buck my party in Ohio and say DO NOT CHALLENGE THE POLL EXTENSION.  Let the polls stay open as long as the voters are willing to stand in line and the workers are willing to stay.  Apparently the Republicans are challenging the Dem suit to keep the polls open.

The big 9 PM *UPDATE*

- Texas for Bush.  NY for Kerry.  Kansas for Bush.  Nebraska for Bush.  Rhode Island for Kerry.  South Dakota for Bush.  North Dakota for Bush.  Wyoming for Bush.

- Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Louisiana and New Mexico too close.  And Florida is still not reporting the big tip.  Ohio has flipped for Bush, but still too early.  Nice to see him not just regain the numbers but pass Kerry.

- 156 to 112 EV for Bush.

*UPDATE*

I think I’m going to take a short break.  Get something to eat, just watch the results for a bit.  I’ll be back for the top of the hour…

The big 10 PM *UPDATE*

- Florida continues to look rock-solid for Bush, and Ohio is looking comfortable.  I find it odd that the networks are willing to call races with 0% of the precincts reporting but they adamantly refuse to call Florida!  Scaredy-cats.  ;)

- 112 -176 EV with a big fistful of “too close to call.”

- So if Bush wins Florida...we can call it a night, right?  If he wins Ohio and Florida, there’s no crying to be done by the left.  No lawsuits or recounts would matter.

- Looks like Specter will lose.  The GOP doesn’t lose a seat, though, since they replaced Georgia’s (D) with an (R).  That’s a wash.

- MSNBC just called Arkansas for Bush.  182-112 EV.

*UPDATE*

- Missouri for Bush.  193 EVs.

- I’m looking deep at the CNN numbers for Florida.  I see no way for Kerry to carry the state unless he carried the remainder of M-D, and more than 50% of Collier, Monroe and Orange counties.  Anoyone else see anything different?

*UPDATE*

OK, with 86% of FLorida reporting, why won’t they call it?  This is starting to smell funny.  Plus, why aren’t those 4 important counties reporting anything?  What’s the hold-up?  If Miami-Dade can start reporting, don’t tell me that Monroe has zero numbers yet.

- OK, that’s it.  88% reporting at 10:41 PM Eastern, and Bush hasn’t lost ground in the last million votes.  I’m calling Florida.  The networks are chicken.

- New Mexico absentee ballot scould be a problem until tomorrow night.

*UPDATE*

- AZ goes to Bush, MSNBC calls Pennsylvania for Kerry.  BUT THEY REFUSE TO CALL FLORIDA??!?!?

*UPDATE*

- MSNBC says the youth vote did not show up.  OOPS!

- OK, 90% of Florida reporting.  Still no change in Bush’s lead.  Still no call for Florida.

The big 11 PM *UPDATE*

- OK, 0% reporting, 0 to 0 for Washington and California, but a blind, deaf guy with no hands to use the Internet could call them for Kerry.  BUT STILL NO CALL FOR FLORIDA!

- MSNBC calls in 199 to 207 in the EC for Bush.

- Some are saying absentee ballots are why they refuse to call Florida.  At some point people have to realize that the GOP almost always wins the absentees.  Call it a 50-50 split and Bush still wins Florida.

- Uh oh, Arlen Specter is coming back. Good for the Republicans, bad for humanity.  :)

*UPDATE*

- CNN says 95% reporting in FLorida, and still no change in Bush’s lead.  C’mon now!

- The Ohio situation is ugly.  No two ways about it.  Next election cycle, there is one simple answer: MORE POLLING PLACES.

*UPDATE* 11:36 PM

- OK, Bush is opening his lead in Florida. 97% reporting.  All the reporters and pundits are saying that it may be impossible for Kerry to win.  Chris Matthews is now questioning why the “experts” aren’t calling it.

- 326096 votes up for Bush in FLorida.  If the absentees break half and half (they never do) there still are not enough votes for Kerry to win.

*UPDATE*

- Wow, the networks called Florida for Bush and the cable channels still haven’t.  CNN hasn’t called Montana or Arizona either.  That surprised me.

- EC numbers according to major networks: 237 Bush, 188 Kerry.

*UPDATE*

- Montana called by MSNBC, who refuses to call Florida.

- Ron Silver is probably the most outspoken opponent of Moore’s influence over the Democrats ever.  I love it!

- WOOHOO!  CNN calls Florida.

*UPDATE*

Colorado for Bush.  Here’s the EV breakdown, all leads for Bush.

FOX: 246 - 206
CNN: 234 - 188
NBC: 246 - 206
ABC: 246 - 195
CBS: 246 - 207

Ohio, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio, Ohio and Ohio.

*UPDATE* 12:37 AM

OK, I’m looking at New Mexico.  The CNN breakdown shows 74% in as of this writing, and Bush with a 5% lead.  They’ve called others with less of a lead and less of the vote...is there a pocket of huge Democrat support missing from this map that I don’t know about?  Seems to me NM is a red state at this point in time.

*UPDATE* 12:47 AM

- FOX CALLED OHIO.  Are they right?  I want to be celebrate, but I think it might be premature.

*UPDATE* 12:47 AM

- That’s it.  Alaska is Bush.  If Kerry wins everything else, we get a 269 - 269, and the House will elect Bush.

Dare we say it?

Dare we?

*UPDATE* 1:30 AM

- Oh, big surprise, Kerry won’t concede Ohio.  He has to win virtually EVERY SINGLE OUTSTANDING VOTE in Ohio in order to win.  What a piece of shit that guy is.

*UPDATE* 2:19 AM

OK, let’s look at this.  3% of the Ohio votes are out.  150,000 votes.  Kerry has to get 6 out of 7 to win.  Who thinks that is feasible?  There may be 150,000 provisionals.  They will break the same way as the rest of the ballots in Ohio, 52% to 49% to Bush.  What’s left?  Absentee.  Which almost always break 2-1 for the GOP.

Kerry cannot win it.

*UPDATE* 2:29 AM

- The Breck Girl just came out with his “We’re gonna fight for every vote” nonsense.  His face alone makes me EXTREMELY ANGRY.  That is such a bitch move.

Democrats, this is your party.  Proud yet?

Hi JimK,

Over from Moorewatch, going to add you to my election night coverage.

Rann Aridorn#2  Posted by Rann Aridorn United States on 11/02 at 08:07 PM -

I think she spoke in the past tense because Edwards decided not to run for reelection, Jim, didn’t he? Mostly because he didn’t have a chance to win.

Rann Aridorn#3  Posted by Rann Aridorn United States on 11/02 at 08:17 PM -

Looks like the popular vote is going WAY in Bush’s favor. Heh, wonder what the Dems will bitch about needing to change if it goes both Popular -and- Electoral for Bush?

JimK#4  Posted by JimK United States on 11/02 at 08:22 PM -

Rann: Good point.  He’s still technically the Senator, but OK, I’ll giver her that one.  :)

Hey! MSNBC is gonna read some blogs, coming up! Wonder if we’ll show up? ^.^

Virginia Delivers!

You’re welcome

#7  Posted by flip United States on 11/02 at 08:38 PM -

i’m relatively TV-less here in Ohio, so the web is my window to the election.  So…

Looking at CNN’s exit poll data, as available, i’m seeing something I hadn’t even considered before, dumbass that I am, and that’s a significant portion of Democrats voting for Bush.  Yeah, it’s in the 10-15% range, but it’s significant to me in that I assumed ALL Democrats would vote for the Democratic Party candidate.  Inversely, Republicans voting for Kerry seem to lie in the 3-5% range.

Maybe I’ve been upset, WAY too upset, over this election for too long.  Faith, I tell myself, but pessimist that I am, I won’t believe it until the Fat Justice sings....

Congratulations, right-thoughts is my right wing blog of choice for election night coverage.  I like your optimism ;) Although I’m prepared to take it like a man if we lose.

Rann Aridorn#9  Posted by Rann Aridorn United States on 11/02 at 08:41 PM -

Also, in case you missed it, one of the guys on Fox pointed out that the “270 needed to win” that you see on a lot of channels is a misnomer. If it’s a 269/269 split, Bush will still win, because the Republicans have (and will likely retain) control of the House and Senate.

#10  Posted by davidst United States on 11/02 at 08:42 PM -

Hi paratrooper, glad to see you getting in on the fun over here.  Right-thinking and moore-watch just have too many commenters for my taste now.

exit poll data up for Ohio… damn, this state’s gonna be close.

Hey David!

Right-thoughts rules! As good a place to hang out as you will find. I might pop over and say hody to Lee later for a bit, But I will be here, at Moorewatch, and in the forums all night.

jo-jo#13  Posted by jo-jo United States on 11/02 at 08:58 PM -

yeah, i’m pretty sure everyone keeps forgetting that no matter who wins tonight, GWB’s first term as POTUS is not quite over.

even GWB said something (and i’m completely misquoting) to the effect “well, i’m pretty sure i’m going to win, and then i can get to doing the job” ... um, well, you gotta do that tomorrow win or lose ;)

#14  Posted by BenD United States on 11/02 at 09:47 PM -

Made it here from Moorewatch as well.  Thanks for the link!

Anyone else tired of listening to Peter Jenning’s slant?  Or is anyone even watching him?  I hate listening to him talk about SENATOR Kerry, versus MR. Bush.

Ben: Jennings is a jerk.  Always has been.  That’s such a cheap trick to play...giving the respect of title to one over the other.

Network news is making me crazy, I’ve pretty much stopped checking the networks unless all cable news is on a commercial.

One close puppy indeed!

Damn, too bad I have to go out tonight!

Rush, whom I don’t read/listen-to regularly had an interesting article yesterday (excerpted from his radio program) about how the latest polls are pretty slanted and the most accurate polls (using previous elections as a measure) have Bush winning.  Zogby, for example, was quite inaccurate for Senate races in 2002 (something like only 5/17 correct).

#20  Posted by Paratrooper United States on 11/02 at 09:57 PM -

I’ve got Fox on the tube. It’s funny how cautious they are being.

#21  Posted by BenD United States on 11/02 at 09:57 PM -

JimK:  I can understand that!

As far as OH is concerned, I think we’re all on the edge of our seats here.  I live in Kentucky, but work in Ohio.  According to my compatriots at work, lines have been incredibly long all day, beginning at 6:30.  Bush is still pulling it out so far...<crossing fingers>

#22  Posted by davidst United States on 11/02 at 09:59 PM -

I hate having one state decide the whole election.  We need to eliminate electoral voting.  I don’t care how difficult it is to campaign equally for every vote in the country.

Michigan President 54 of 5806 precincts - 1 percent
George W. Bush (i) Rep 18,777 - 58 percent
John F. Kerry Dem 13,420 - 41 percent

I’d reeeeeealy like to see Bush take Michigan

#27  Posted by martyr United States on 11/02 at 10:15 PM -

Has anyone figured out why CNN has only totaled Bush’s tally at 155 when everyone else has it at 156?

#28  Posted by martyr United States on 11/02 at 10:23 PM -

Has anyone else noticed that cnn.com has the EV totals at Bush 155, Kerry 112. I wonder which state they screwed up?

HOLY CRAP NY WENT BLUE I’M SHOCKED AND SURPRISED

Can you believe it?  ;)

I hate having one state decide the whole election.  We need to eliminate electoral voting.

I heartily disagree.  All you have to do is convince 50.1% of the nation that they can band together to subjugate *anyone* and they will do it.

Human nature requires a check and balance, and the Electoral College is exactly that check.  You can’t fight human nature on a mass scale...better to work with or around it instead fo trying to change it.

#30  Posted by martyr United States on 11/02 at 10:29 PM -

I’m stunned, Obama won. I never would have guessed that one.

#31  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 10:36 PM -

So far this is looking really good, I just wonder if they’re going to wait until 100% of Florida reports before they call it.  Still, I keep expecting to refresh the screen and see half the states turne blue.  And I swore I wouldn’t watch this.......

#32  Posted by C.H United States on 11/02 at 10:37 PM -

Ohio polls “should” be closed now 2 hours late atleast that is what our news is saying.

Demint wins in SC. or the repubs.

#35  Posted by Badger87 United States on 11/02 at 10:49 PM -

The one point difference, I heard, was that apparently Maine has a proportional electoral vote and some are only giving Kerry 3 of the 4.

#36  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 10:50 PM -

171!  C’mon!  Huh?  What state has 1 vote?

#37  Posted by cha United States on 11/02 at 10:55 PM -

Holy shit Arkansas is teetering both ways.
I thought we learned our lesson with clinton.

It’s still real early.

#38  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 10:59 PM -

Arkansas?  I’m in Missouri and thought we were solidly Bush--the exit polls showed 52/47 for him, yet the precincts reporting are barely 51/49.  Gawd I hope we don’t turn blue.

#39  Posted by martyr United States on 11/02 at 11:01 PM -

Badger - I dunno, CNN has fixed their totals to relflect 171 for Bush. Whatever they did, they’ve fixed it

#40  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 11:09 PM -

Take a look at ABC--they’re projecting 192 for Bush, and they’re as liberal as they come.  Hmmm....I wonder if most of this “too close to call” stuff isn’t to keep up the viewership--they know this is the main event.  Still, the K man could pull ahead and win....urp!

JimK#41  Posted by JimK United States on 11/02 at 11:09 PM -

MSNBC just called Arkansas for Bush…

#42  Posted by swagger United States on 11/02 at 11:14 PM -

We need to eliminate electoral voting.

Here’s an e-mail I sent to a co-worker today.

----------

http://www.fec.gov/pdf/eleccoll.pdf

This is the paper I mentioned, written by someone at the Federal Elections Commission. It covers the history of the electoral college, as well as the pros and cons of the system. It’s the best single resource I’ve seen on the subject. If you don’t want to read the whole thing (I highly recommend that you do), the pros and cons start on page 12 of the PDF and the conclusion is on page 18. Also note that this was written before the 2000 election, so it’s not mentioned.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/vote2000/cbc/map.htm

Here’s a county by county map of election results for the 2000 election. As you can see, a popular vote system would put the power to control the entire country into the hands of the population centers in New York, L.A., San Francisco, Chicago and Detroit. The people in those metropolitan cities have vastly different interests, values and concerns than those in the majority of America, which is primarily rural and by and large votes Republican. The electoral college was designed and amended in part to address that problem and make sure that the geographic majority wasn’t ruled by the large cities, which only make up a very small portion of the country, geographically speaking.

#43  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 11:14 PM -

Florida has 80% of the precincts reporting--are they hoping for a miracle or what?  Pennsylvania seems a lost cause, almost as bad as Illinois.

#44  Posted by Badger87 United States on 11/02 at 11:14 PM -

Martyr -

If you go the fox news site and roll over Maine in the country graphic, it shows Maine has 4 EV but Kerry has only been awarded 3.

JimK#45  Posted by JimK United States on 11/02 at 11:17 PM -

What website has been the favorite among you guys tonight?  I really like the way CNN’s maps work and how they have it broken down.  It’s easy to track states, counties, etc.

#46  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 11:18 PM -

Swagger, I think you got a good point, as looking at the precinct voting it seems the big cities pretty much own the states they’re in.  We have Kansas City and St. Louis so I’m surprised we’re still moderately Republican, but Chicago, New York, Philadelphia; they all dictate terms, which isn’t so good for the people in the rest of the state.

#47  Posted by martyr United States on 11/02 at 11:18 PM -

Badger, That’s fine, even taking that into account CNN was short one electoral vote for Bush. Thay’ve corrected it now, so it’s a moot point.

#48  Posted by swagger United States on 11/02 at 11:18 PM -

What website has been the favorite among you guys tonight?

This one has the best map I’ve seen so far.

CNN has all the info you need, ABC has the least on the surface, but if you hold your mouse over each state it shows the running tallies.  Fox has been my least favorite.

#53  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 11:25 PM -

Jeez...even Ohio’s started to open up.  First of the night I remember Kerry was winning. Now he’s behind by 6%.  Anyone want to wager every Vietnam veteran in the country has gone out and voted Bush?

JimK#54  Posted by JimK United States on 11/02 at 11:28 PM -

nosferatu: Fox is not really wowing me with their web coverage.  And the TV coverage is OBVIOUSLY low-key, a marked difference from around 7:30 when I started watching.  They seem afraid to call things, being very cautious, etc.

I guess they’re afraid of people calling them biased.  They shoudl just be themselves, they dominated the coverage all year, beating all other networls COMBINED for the conventions.

MSNBC has become a more fair network these days, but the website sucks.

JimK#55  Posted by JimK United States on 11/02 at 11:29 PM -

martyr, I like that Megapundit page.  Easy to see the broad strokes!

#58  Posted by davidst United States on 11/02 at 11:32 PM -

So if we switch to a popular vote system, Republicans will never get elected again? :) Yeah, that would suck.

Oh and I’ve been watching the fox website.  Their map is bigger and I like their “3D” senate pie graph.

If Louisiana gives Republican senatorial candidate David Vitter 50% or more of the vote, there won’t be a run off and he’ll be the first Republican seneator in our history (weird for a solid Bush state imo).  Last I checked he has 53% with 33% precincts reported.  He ran a great campaign (perception-wise at least).  If he doesn’t get 50%+ then he’ll face a run off a month from now with 1 of 4 Democrats (where the Republican usually loses).

I like the latimes site latimes

#60  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/02 at 11:37 PM -

Jimk-- Who knows, I thought they would be more gung ho also.  I’m really wondering what’s going on in Florida--Collier county has 0 precincts reporting, so are they holding off because of that?

I haven’t watched any of the television coverage, just been flipping back and forth between abc/cnn/fox/here/ebay.  Yeah, that election coverage at ebay, really something.....

#61  Posted by flip United States on 11/02 at 11:40 PM -

88% of FL reporting… it’s nearly statistically impossible for those “disenfranchised voters” to put Kerry in reciept of their EVs.

#62  Posted by flip United States on 11/02 at 11:46 PM -

i’m surprised they haven’t called PA for Kerry yet, either…

#63  Posted by Badger87 United States on 11/02 at 11:49 PM -

Florida - I heard a comment on NBC that there are over a million absentee votes that have not yet been opened, certified and therefore not counted. I find that hard to believe...just reporting what I heard.

#64  Posted by martyr United States on 11/02 at 11:50 PM -

PA just called for Kerry, AZ for Bush

#65  Posted by wallywest80 United States on 11/02 at 11:50 PM -

PA they said on fox was held back because the strong kerry areas were the first to coem in, and while doubtful that bush could win, they were going to wait a bit.

;)

Jim, I think it is because there are like over 1-million absentee ballots in FL that have to be manually opened and counted, at least according to what they said on NBC.

Wally - Fox just gave PA to Kerry

#69  Posted by davidst United States on 11/02 at 11:56 PM -

The latimes website is the best imo.  you can see the precincts reporting by hovering (and unlike the yahoo site, no silly window pops up in your face blocking the rest of the map).

Thanks for the link.

on the CNN Ohio county map, that dark red county upper right center… that’s Holmes County… Amish Country. ;) Yoder likes dat Boosh!

#71  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/03 at 12:03 AM -

Hmmm....Collier county Florida suddenly went from 0% to 65% Bush....and Ohio is mostly Bush except for the Youngstown area---with 51% of the precincts and Bush 100,000+ in the lead, so why aren’t they calling Ohio yet?

#72  Posted by flip United States on 11/03 at 12:03 AM -

CA to Kerry… more shock and awe.  ;)

#73  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/03 at 12:04 AM -

Whoa!  CNN just called California for Kerry (big surprise there!) but now it looks like the race is almost even. Hmmmm......

#74  Posted by cha United States on 11/03 at 12:04 AM -

Arkansas seems to be Bush now BUT Pulaski county has NOT reported in yet. Clinton Country.

Now that’s funny.  ;)

#76  Posted by flip United States on 11/03 at 12:07 AM -

they can call AZ and MT for Bush any time now, thanks.

#77  Posted by snyda United States on 11/03 at 12:08 AM -

We dont need no stinking exit polls!

I hope my vote in NH makes a difference.

#78  Posted by martyr United States on 11/03 at 12:08 AM -

MSNBC also called Cali fo Kerry (online anyway). Fox called Washington St. for Kerry as well.

Arlen Specter seems to have won as well.

I apologize for that stereotypical remark to all the Amish folk cruising the web tonight.  ;)

ACLU lawsuit in FL

Nobody saw that coming

#82  Posted by misterd United States on 11/03 at 12:12 AM -

As I recall, last time out Bush was winning Georgia 60-40, and they didn’t call it until after they called FL for Gore (who at the time had fewer votes than Bush).

Anyway, someone at NRO pointing out that:
1) the conservative part of NH hasn’t turned in their votes yet.
2) The largest county in NJ, which includes military bases, is very conservative and not yet reporting.

Remember, just because they called it doesn’t make it so.

#83  Posted by davidst United States on 11/03 at 12:12 AM -

Oh I changed my mind.  CNN has the best site.  Those visual break downs of states into counties is just awesome.

#84  Posted by swagger United States on 11/03 at 12:14 AM -

MSNBC just said that people are still standing in line in Ohio, which is probably why it hasn’t been called yet.

#85  Posted by johnnydickhead United States on 11/03 at 12:14 AM -

Yea that cnn breakdown is pretty sweet

#86  Posted by swagger United States on 11/03 at 12:17 AM -

CNN’s website is calling my county for Kerry, which is pretty unlikely. That’s with 0% reporting… *sigh*

#87  Posted by C.H United States on 11/03 at 12:18 AM -

I was also amazed they call cali but not florida, wtf its pretty clear this time around how can you call a state with 0% and not one with 90%.

#88  Posted by snyda United States on 11/03 at 12:21 AM -

when the state is Cali, it’s pretty easy. I can tell you the sky is blue without looking :)

#89  Posted by swagger United States on 11/03 at 12:21 AM -

It’s because there’s a magnifying glass on the news agencies when it comes to FL, and everyone knows that Kerry’s going to take CA.

#90  Posted by Paratrooper United States on 11/03 at 12:23 AM -

Yahoo (AP) just called Washington state for Kerry with 1% reporting and a 2% margin?

Yet florida is at 94% with a 5% margin and still no call

I think they’re jerkin’ us around

#91  Posted by zerodamage United States on 11/03 at 12:27 AM -

I am guessing that NH will go Kerry and that New Mexico will Bush.  This will give Bush a +1 net gain if he loses NH.

#92  Posted by martyr United States on 11/03 at 12:30 AM -

para - still a chance that Kerry could take Florida. Looks like he is down 303K votes and their are about 335 untallied votes so far.

#93  Posted by davidst United States on 11/03 at 12:31 AM -

If they call florida and ohio, the election coverage is over.  But they don’t have to call Ohio for a while, they outta call Florida.

#94  Posted by nosferatu United States on 11/03 at 12:32 AM -

Gads, I think they’re holding off on making new announcements just to keep viewers attached.  Unless something drastic happens it looks like Bush will win the popular vote and electoral vote, he’s been running about the same in everything since before 8:30.  Of course once the California votes are counted he might lose the popular, but still....c’mon, even I can see where some of the states have gone.  I have to give it up soon, I’ve been at a go since 4:30 AM and my mind’s frazzled.

#95  Posted by zerodamage United States on 11/03 at 12:34 AM -

Ah, Bush has 60,000 vote lead in Wisconsin and that was a Gore state in 2000.  I think Bush is going to take at least 3 states that Gore had in 2000 and lose NH.

#96  Posted by martyr United States on 11/03 at 12:34 AM -

Florida is now at 96% I don’t see a mathematical way for Kerry to take Florida at this point. Am I missing something?

#97  Posted by davidst United States on 11/03 at 12:36 AM -

I’m having so much fun with these maps :)

I went back to Yahoo.  My brother found that if you click on a state then click the text link that says “interactive map” it shows the representative districts (instead of county/parish boundaries).  You can see gerrymandering in all its gory detail.

#98  Posted by zerodamage United States on 11/03 at 12:37 AM -

Martyr, Most of the absantee balots are most likely military which are 75% or more for Bush, so FL looks like a gimmee for Bush.  I just think they are being cautious because of 2000.

JimK#99  Posted by JimK United States on 11/03 at 12:39 AM -

david, can you link to the page that contains that map?  I would love to look at it!

zero: yeah...it’s timidity brought on by 2000, but c’mon!  At some point we have to shit or get off the pot on Florida.

#100  Posted by martyr United States on 11/03 at 12:41 AM -

I agree. But as I stated in a later post, there is no way that I’m aware of their is no way Kerry can take Florida at this point.

AHHHHHH that damn whiskey drinking witch is back on Fox - run away, run away!!!
